What Happens in a Sozo Session?

A Sozo session is a gentle, Holy Spirit-led prayer ministry designed to help people experience emotional healing, spiritual freedom, and a deeper connection with God. One of the most unique aspects of a Sozo session is that the Sozo minister or counsellor acts primarily as a guide, facilitating what is essentially a conversation between the guest and the Godhead — Father God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit.

At the beginning of every Sozo session, the guest is guided through a simple introduction explaining how the process works. Guests are invited to relax, often by closing their eyes, and then to repeat prayer questions given by the Sozo minister. They are encouraged to share the very first thing they hear, sense, feel, or see in response, no matter how unusual or unexpected it may seem. This creates space for individuals to recognise and receive God’s voice personally and directly.

Throughout the session, the Sozo team carefully records the encouraging truths and revelations the guest receives from God. These personal insights — often referred to as “truths” in Sozo ministry — are shared with the guest afterwards or emailed following an online Sozo session. Confidentiality, comfort, and the opportunity to pause or take breaks are always prioritised.

The Main Sozo Ministry Tools

While every Sozo session is unique and led by the Holy Spirit, ministers commonly use several foundational Sozo tools, including:

  • The Father Ladder — addressing wounds and beliefs formed through relationships with parents, siblings, or authority figures.
  • The Four Doors — exploring areas such as fear, hatred, occult involvement, and sexual brokenness that may affect spiritual freedom.
  • Presenting Jesus — inviting Jesus into painful memories by asking, “Jesus, where were You in that memory?”
  • The Wall — identifying anything preventing the guest from hearing clearly from Father God, Jesus, or Holy Spirit.

These tools help uncover unhealthy beliefs, emotional pain, fear, shame, trauma, and spiritual barriers that may have developed over time.

A Holy Spirit Led Healing Ministry

Sozo ministry is deeply dependent on the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Experienced Sozo ministers prayerfully listen for direction about which questions to ask next and how best to support the guest during the session. While training and experience are valuable, the heart of every Sozo is sensitivity to God’s leading and His desire to bring healing and truth.

As ministers grow in experience, they develop a deeper understanding of the questions and approaches that help guests experience greater emotional and spiritual breakthrough.

The Purpose of a Sozo Session

At its core, a Sozo session is about encountering God’s love and truth personally. Guests often discover and release false beliefs formed through painful life experiences and replace them with God’s perspective about who they truly are.

Many people experience freedom from:

  • Fear and anxiety
  • Guilt and shame
  • Trauma and emotional pain
  • Anger and self-protection
  • Negative thought patterns
  • Spiritual disconnection

A common response after a Sozo session is feeling noticeably lighter, freer, and more peaceful.

After a Sozo Session

Many Sozo teams encourage guests to continue processing and deepening their healing journey after the session. This may include prayer, reflection, journaling, or working through devotional resources such as Wonderfully Free… No Going Back, a 31-day post-Sozo devotional journal.

Guests are often encouraged to allow the truths received during the session to settle over several weeks before considering another Sozo ministry session.

A Ministry of Freedom and Restoration

Sozo ministry offers a safe and prayerful environment where people can experience emotional healing, spiritual restoration, and renewed intimacy with God. For many, it becomes a deeply transformative experience marked by freedom, peace, and a stronger ability to hear God’s voice for themselves.
