What Is Bethel Sozo?

Bethel Sozo is often described as an inner healing and deliverance ministry or a prayer and listening ministry. At its heart, however, Sozo is a deeply relational ministry focused on helping people connect personally with Father God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
In a Sozo session, the relationship is between the guest receiving ministry and the Godhead. While many people know intellectually that “God loves them,” Sozo helps individuals experience and hear that truth personally for themselves. The ministry focuses on identifying areas where forgiveness is needed, recognising lies that may have been believed or partnered with, and replacing them with God’s truth.
Hearing directly from Father God, Jesus, or the Holy Spirit about His love, freedom, healing, and restoration is central to the Bethel Sozo ministry experience.
The History and Origins of Bethel Sozo
Bethel Sozo originated at Bethel Church in Redding, California. The ministry traces its beginnings to a teaching visit by Randy Clark, a pastor known internationally for his healing ministry.
During his visit, Randy Clark sent an advance team to train the Bethel prayer ministry team using tools he had learned while ministering in Argentina with Carlos Anacondia and deliverance minister Pablo Batari.
Pablo Batari used what he described as a “10-step programme” designed to help people find freedom from past wounds and spiritual strongholds. At the time, Dawna De Silva was serving on the Bethel prayer team. Drawing inspiration from that model, she developed the first Bethel Sozo tool, known as The Four Doors.
The Four Doors teaching is based on the belief that spiritual and emotional struggles commonly enter through one or more of four areas:

Over time, additional ministry tools were developed, creating the unique combination of practices now known worldwide as Bethel Sozo ministry.

The word ‘Sozo’ comes from the Greek language and carries the combined meaning of:

Together, these express the complete picture of restoration and redemption that every Sozo session seeks to bring.
What Happens in a Bethel Sozo Session?
A typical Bethel Sozo session lasts around 90 minutes and is led by trained and experienced ministry team members known as a ‘First’ and a ‘Second’.
The ‘First’ facilitates the session by guiding the guest through prayer and conversation with Father God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Guests are encouraged to listen carefully and share the first thing they sense, hear, see, or feel in response to prayer, trusting that God is communicating with them personally.
The session develops as a facilitated conversation, with each question building naturally on previous responses. Throughout the session, the ‘Second’ supports the ministry process and records important truths, encouragements and revelations received by the guest.
The overall goal of Bethel Sozo ministry is to help people encounter God’s love, experience emotional and spiritual healing, break agreement with lies, and walk in greater freedom and intimacy with Him.
