Sozo on the Prayer Line

Sozo on the Prayer Line

It’s not a bad book title on its own, but we thought it would resonate better if we added a little bit to it, and made it ‘Connecting with Heaven, Sozo on the Prayer Line…or anywhere else’, which is a bit of a mouthful but actually tells you what it’s about.

And, why write this? Well, we’ve been involved in Bethel Sozo since 2008, and it’s always been promoted and thought of as being a session-based ministry; in other words, it’s something one travels to receive from a Sozo practitioner, or books an online Zoom for, and the fact is, it isn’t, or, at least, it doesn’t have to be. The beauty of the Sozo tools, the way that Sozo works, is that, if used well, deep inner healing can take place in a matter of minutes, the amount of time, in fact, that one has at the front of church during a typical Sunday altar call.

How much does one need to know to be able to use this? We’d say that a fundamental understanding of how our childhood determines how we think and behave as adults is vital, as is an appreciation of the importance of forgiveness and releasing judgements. And then there’s knowing how to apply the Sozo tools. This takes a bit of learning, but there’s an easily picked-up basic framework that’s explained in the book, and it doesn’t take long before someone already experienced in praying for others to learn the ropes.

Having said that, one of the blessings of Sozo on the Prayer Line is that no experience of praying for others is needed; there’s no need for the often-found fear of knowing where to start, or what to say next. All we do in Sozo is host a meeting between the guest, the person you’re praying with, and Father God, Jesus or Holy Spirit, and we do that by asking the guest to repeat the questions we give them and to let us know the first thing they hear, see, sense or feel in response, because we believe that first thing is God speaking to us, the second thing being us thinking about it, which isn’t! These questions, and what to do with the answers they elicit, are explained in the book.

A question we’ve been asked is whether one can use Sozo with non-believers. My book, ‘Becoming Wholehearted, a Journey into Authenticity’, goes into this in some detail, but the short answer is “Yes”, we do it slightly differently, but, ultimately, with the same degree of inner healing as an outcome.
