Carrying Emotional Baggage
We all do it. We spend our early lives picking it up, and the rest of our lives either living with it or trying to get rid of it. It’s the emotional baggage we all carry as a result of the wounds that life so easily inflicts on us from the moment of our conception.
Did you know that all of us carry the weight of nearly 15lb of air around with us all the time†? It’s the weight of the Earth’s atmosphere pressing down on us. We’re born with it and die with it. We just don’t notice it, and if we’re not careful, our emotional baggage will be the same. But it doesn’t have to be that way! We’re made in Father God’s image. He’s made us to be like Him. He wants us to be free of emotional baggage, just as His son Jesus was. After all, we’re His sons and daughters too!
Hopefully, your Sozo will have dealt with a lot of emotional baggage, and you’ll have forgiven those who have wounded you, and recognised the lies you’ve believed about yourself because of it. It’s an onion skin process – often peeling just one layer at a time. It can be painful as you recognise how believing lies about yourself has changed the way you’ve done life, but what freedom there is as each layer is removed! Ridding yourself of lies is
a process that involves the recognition of each lie. One has to forgive the person, persons, or even organisation (s) responsible, renounce the lie(s), and then ask Father God for the truth as He sees it. Declare that truth and make it your own!

Prayer and Response:
People often ask if one can Sozo oneself. The answer is “yes,” to a degree. Ask Father God what lies you’re believing about yourself, and He will answer you. Then ask Him what the truth is. Write this down and reflect on these truths. Declare them over yourself. Does that feel real? Sometimes our emotions have to catch up with the truth! Ultimately, our whole life should be a constant conversation with Jesus, an ongoing series of questions He answers, all cumulatively leading to our being able to be completely confident in our identity in Him.
Sometimes, the wounds and lies are so ingrained, so part of who we are, and so familiar to us that we just can’t see them. That’s when it takes someone else to help us. Most Bethel Sozo practitioners have a Sozo every year! We’re all determined to get rid of our baggage! Don’t feel bad about having as many Sozos as it takes. It shows you’re determined to deal with your stuff!
