Accepting Holy Spirit
Not everyone actually sees a picture of Holy Spirit in their Bethel Sozos. They usually have an impression of Him being present, a feeling that He’s close. Was it the same for you?
We also find in Bethel Sozo that those people who have either a bad relationship or no relationship with their mothers often have a bad or no relationship with Holy Spirit. Now, why should that be? We think it’s because Holy Spirit’s role and the role our mothers are meant to fulfil are very similar. Mothers are meant to comfort us and make us feel secure and wrapped in love. They’re also the ones from whom we get our basic learning about good and bad, safe and unsafe and how to tie shoelaces or cross the road safely. Holy Spirit was sent to fill those who accept Jesus as the gateway to the Father. He was sent to comfort us, to act as a moral compass, to guide us as to what’s right and wrong. In John 14:25-26 (ESV) Jesus reassured his disciples, telling them about “The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you”
In other words, Holy Spirit carries all that Jesus intends for us.
In the same way that many people put their Dad’s face onto that of Father God, many put their mother’s face onto Holy Spirit, thinking that Holy Spirit will treat them in exactly the same way. Without knowing that we’re doing it we try and protect ourselves by limiting our expectations of anything good from God to our own life experience of those who should have loved on us as God wants to. We reflect our parents’ / guardians’ / figures of authority’s brokenness and lack of healing onto God, expecting no more from Him than we’ve experienced in the past. And that’s not the truth, that’s not who He is, and as we learn to recognise and accept that His truth is very different to our experience, healing comes.

Prayer and Response
Is there still anything you feel you need to forgive your mother for? Perhaps “need” is the wrong word. Try asking Holy Spirit if there are still any resentments or judgements left (See Day 19). The aim is to be completely free of anything that doesn’t look like Jesus, so this is worth spending time on!
